Q: Can I blur anything in a video?

A: Yes, anything can be blurred in any video with just a single mark-and-click. Using manual mode, you will simply draw a box around the item or object you wish to blur. Sighthound Redactor will then track and redact that object throughout the video. 


With Sighthound Redactor automatic mode, it is already set to detect, track and blur faces, people, license plates and vehicles for the user.

Q: Do my videos or redaction data leave my computer?

A: No. Sighthound Redactor processes and stores all of the videos and redaction data on your computer or server and does not send any of it externally to Sighthound. License activation and verification does require an internet connection, but the only data sent to our licensing server is your serial number, product name, unique machine identifier, and a “reason” number. No external services or resources are needed to redact. 


The only time you might share videos is when requesting support from within the application. Users can choose to attach the Redactor log files and/or a video they’re having trouble with – both of which are optional.

Q: Do I still need to employ a team of people to do video redaction if I have Sighthound Redator?

A: Yes. Sighthound Redactor will work in a clients’ cloud environment (Azure, Google Cloud or AWS). Sighthound Redactor is also available as a Sighthound hosted service running on AWS.

Q: How strong is the blurring effect in Sighthound Redactor?

A: Redaction intensity can be individually adjusted by users Sighthound Redactor based on their specific use case and needs. The strongest setting will blur even close-up features reliably.

Q: Can Sighthound Redactor video redaction software also redact the audio inside of a video?

  • RAM: 16GB+
  • HD: any (SSD recommended) with sufficient capacity to store your videos
  • GPU: NVIDIA GPU w/ 4GB+ RAM (not required, but recommended for improved performance)

Q: Will Sighthound Redactor help me meet other compliance requirements like CCPA, HIPAA, CPRA, FERPA, etc?

Redaction is frequently required to protect an individual’s privacy, or to comply with regulations and laws governing the protection of personally identifiable information in video.

A: Yes, Sighthound Redactor is built to redact any video source (see codecs below. If you have a special system or format, please bring it to our attention.). 


Oftentimes video surveillance or closed circuit television (CCTV) system footage is one of the most popular sources due to risk and compliance requirements like GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, CPA or other privacy laws and regulations.


There are several ways to take video footage from your system and load it into Sighthound Redactor. Generally we support the major Video Management System (VMS) providers like Gentech, Bosch, Milestone, etc.
