Redactor is AI-powered redaction software for video, image, and audio files. Auto Detect covers Heads, People, License Plates, Vehicles, IDs, Screens, and Documents, and Custom Redaction covers anything else you draw yourself. It runs on your desktop, your server, or your private cloud.
Auto Detect finds Heads, People, License Plates, Vehicles, IDs, Screens, and Documents, and tracks them across frames. There's no known cap on the number of objects in a file; practical limits come from footage length, resolution, hardware, and detection settings. For anything outside those types, draw a zone with Custom Redaction and Redactor tracks it from there.
Redactor offers Mosaic, Pixelate, Blur, Outline, Fill, and Smart Fill redaction styles. Mosaic, Pixelate, and Blur render at Low, Medium, or High intensity, and every style except Outline can be drawn as a rectangle or an ellipse. Set the options at export, or apply the same settings across a batch with multi-select.
Auto Detect is a first pass, not a final answer. Review the Objects list before export, adjust or add anything the model missed with Custom Redaction, and check the rendered file before release. Teams releasing evidence or responding to records requests should keep a human review step in the workflow.
Redactor's interface is available in multiple languages, and audio transcription for speech redaction supports languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, Chinese, and Russian. See the documentation for the current list.
Open the file in Redactor, use Auto Detect for supported object types or Custom Redaction for manually selected regions, review the Objects list, then use Render & Export to create the redacted file.
Redactor reduces the amount of frame-by-frame manual work, but most teams should still review results before exporting or releasing footage. Auto Detect handles supported object types, and Custom Redaction covers anything that needs manual adjustment.
No. Redactor is designed for file-based video, image, and audio redaction, not live-stream redaction. If you need live-video analysis or a separate Sighthound capability, talk to the Sighthound team about the right product path.
Yes. Redactor supports audio redaction using Mute, Beep, and Scramble modes. You can redact selected segments or the full audio track. Read the Redactor docs for workflow details.
Desktop, server, private cloud, offline, air-gapped, and hardware
Pro Desktop is intended for one user on one workstation. Server and Enterprise deployments can support multiple users, with concurrent access and licensing scoped during deployment planning. Review pricing or schedule a demo to scope multi-user access.
Hardware requirements depend on the deployment, footage volume, file types, and number of users. Redactor Server supports x86_64 Intel or AMD CPUs. GPU acceleration may improve performance for larger workflows. Talk to sales to confirm production requirements.
GPU acceleration requires a compatible NVIDIA GPU (Compute Capability 5.0 or higher) with at least 4GB of VRAM — 6GB+ is recommended for desktop use and more for multi-user servers. Systems without a compatible GPU run in CPU mode automatically. NVIDIA's newest Blackwell GPUs aren't supported for acceleration yet and also run in CPU mode.
Yes. Redaction runs entirely in your environment, and installed deployments don't need an outbound connection for day-to-day redaction work. Standard license activation contacts our licensing server, so for offline or air-gapped systems Sighthound provides an offline license file through support instead. Talk to the team when scoping an air-gapped deployment.
No. Redactor installs on your desktop, your server, or your private cloud. There's a hosted trial for evaluation, but the product itself isn't a public SaaS app.
Yes. Redactor can be deployed in customer-controlled infrastructure, including private cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Schedule a demo to review deployment details.
Plans, users, renewals, and what drives cost
Term licenses include an expiration date; when it passes, access pauses until the license is renewed — your media and redaction data remain in your environment untouched. We send renewal reminders ahead of expiry, and access resumes as soon as a new license is in place. Perpetual licenses don't expire; support and update terms are handled separately.
Pro (the desktop plan) covers one user on one Windows workstation. Server runs centrally so a team — typically 1–5 users — can work at once with centralized access. Enterprise covers larger deployments, REST API access, private Slack support, OEM needs, and custom infrastructure. See pricing for current details, or talk to sales about fit.
Redactor can reduce time spent on repetitive manual redaction, especially for teams with recurring footage review or bulk workflows. Actual savings depend on footage volume, review requirements, hardware, and deployment setup.
Redactor pricing depends on the plan and deployment. Pro Desktop pricing is listed on the Pricing page. Server is priced for defined team server deployments. Enterprise is scoped around larger deployments, REST API access, private Slack support, OEM needs, private infrastructure, and implementation requirements.
Free trial, demos, training, support channels, and partners
Use the Redactor support page or your contracted support channel. If you are evaluating Redactor, schedule a demo or use the support contact listed on the site.
Yes. Every customer gets self-serve onboarding materials, including the Redactor training video series and the End User Guide. Guided onboarding and live training sessions are also available depending on your plan and deployment — ask about training when scoping your purchase.
Start with the free trial. It's the fastest way to see whether Redactor handles your footage, and most teams get their answer in an afternoon without talking to anyone.
Book a demo instead if you're evaluating for an agency or larger team, need a server or private-cloud deployment scoped, are looking at API or embedded integration, or have security and procurement requirements to work through.
Trial access and any uploaded media are deleted automatically after 24 hours.
Full access to Redactor's core redaction workflow — automatic detection, custom redaction, review, and export — with no credit card required. The trial runs in a hosted environment for 24 hours, and uploaded videos can be up to 2 minutes long (longer files are trimmed to the first 2 minutes).
Yes. Sighthound supports partner and OEM opportunities for organizations that want to offer Redactor to their customers. Visit the Partners page or talk to the Sighthound team to discuss fit.
REST API, the Agent Toolkit, and integration paths
The developer package for API integrations: Docker Compose deployment configs, AI-agent documentation, TypeScript type definitions, and the OpenAPI specification. Download it from the Developer Portal.
REST API access is available for selected Enterprise deployments. It is not included with the Server plan. It can be used to connect Redactor to existing systems, ingest media, trigger detection, and export redacted files. The Redactor Agent Toolkit is the developer package for API integrations; it includes Docker Compose deployment configurations, AI-agent documentation, TypeScript type definitions, and the OpenAPI specification. Review the Developer Portal or talk to sales about availability.
Where media is processed, audit trails, model training, and privacy frameworks
Redactor can help teams redact personal data in video, image, and audio files before footage is shared, disclosed, or exported. It can support GDPR-related workflows, but Sighthound does not claim formal GDPR certification and this is not legal advice. Schedule a demo to review your redaction process.
Redactor can help teams redact personal information from video, image, and audio files in workflows governed by privacy or disclosure requirements such as HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, FERPA, FOIA, and CJIS. Redactor is tooling; compliance remains the customer’s responsibility. Schedule a demo to discuss your workflow.
Redactor can support CJIS-sensitive workflows when deployed in an appropriate customer-controlled environment, such as a properly configured GovCloud or approved infrastructure setup. Redactor is tooling; CJIS compliance depends on the customer’s full environment, policies, and controls. Talk to sales to scope a CJIS-sensitive deployment.
Yes. Redactor can generate audit data per file: a CSV log of timestamped session and user activity, plus a full session-history snapshot when history persistence is enabled. A SHA-256 hash of each imported file is computed by default in API workflows, with MD5, SHA-1, and SHA-512 also available, and export-file hashes can be included when configured. Server deployments also show which user has a file open.
Yes, exporting renders a brand-new file with redactions burned into the media itself, so the covered content isn't carried in the export. Your original file stays untouched in your workspace, and the session keeps the redaction data, so you can re-render with different settings later if the release scope changes.
No, in desktop, server, offline, air-gapped, or private deployments, media is processed in the customer-controlled environment. Hosted free trial or hosted service workflows process uploaded media in the hosted environment. Support uploads are optional and should only be sent when requested.
Bodycam, CCTV, VMS, phone video, file formats, and getting media in
Send a sample file format or your export settings to the team and we'll confirm before you commit. Contact sales.
There's no import of redaction projects from other tools; redaction settings don't transfer between platforms. Your source media works as-is: export the files from your current evidence system and bring them into Redactor. For agencies moving a backlog across, talk to the team about batch processing and deployment sizing.
Redactor imports common video containers and codecs — MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, TS, and MPG with H.264, H.265/HEVC (on supported versions), MPEG-4, VP8/VP9, and more — plus images (JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF, and others) and standalone audio files like MP3, WAV, and AAC. Rendered video exports use H.264 in an MP4 container for playback compatibility. See the docs for the full, current matrix.
Bodycam, dashcam, CCTV, video management system exports, interview-room recordings, mobile-phone video, and screen captures. Redactor works on exported files rather than connecting to a camera system directly.
Most teams export files from their camera system, video management system, or evidence platform and import those files into Redactor. Server, API, and custom integration workflows vary by deployment. Developers evaluating API-based workflows can review the Redactor Agent Toolkit.
